When is Nail Surgery Needed?

Common Nail Surgeries We Perform

Partial Nail Avulsion (PNA)
Only the affected edge of the nail is removed—commonly done for ingrown toenails. A chemical may be applied to prevent regrowth if needed.

Total Nail Avulsion (TNA)
The entire nail is removed in severe infections or trauma cases. A new nail usually regrows over time.

Nail Biopsy
A small tissue sample is taken from the nail bed or matrix for diagnosis of tumors, psoriasis, or lichen planus.

Drainage of Nail Abscess
Done in cases of acute paronychia or bacterial infection, this relieves pain and removes pus.

Matricectomy
Destruction of the nail matrix (root) is done in cases of recurrent ingrown nails, using chemicals or electrocautery.
